LANDSCAPES Have you ever watched a sunflower field after a storm? When the sun is partially hidden by clouds in places? It’s a higgledy-piggledy scene. Sunflowers get temporarily confused as to where to turn their heads, where to find the sun. It’s fun to see- and so much fun to paint! In creating a landscape painting, the forces inherent in each setting stir me to create. A windy day with grasses swaying with the wind influence the movement and textures I capture. A wonderful sunny day with clouds casting shadows over the land- repetition and pattern excites my eye- so I paint that! My mind’s eye is interested in capturing the overall sense of what is happening in that place, in that moment. Sometimes, I paint what I remember about a place I’ve been, how it felt to be there.
